If I modify a parent dynamic election, will this change the child dynamic election?
By default, child dynamic elections are not changed when you modify a parent dynamic election. However, if you need to, you can change your child dynamic elections by updating their 'parent' dynamic election and using the 'Apply changes to child elections' option.
For example, you may be in the middle of your committee nomination period and need to change the voting dates for all of the child dynamic elections that have already been generated.
- Find the relevant parent dynamic election within the 'Dynamic' tab and click 'Modify'
- Make the relevant changes that you need to make to the parent dynamic election, such as changing the voting dates or the description of your elections
- Once you have made your changes, scroll to the bottom of the page
- Alongside the 'Submit' button, a toggle will appear entitled 'Apply changes to all child elections'
- Select this toggle to ensure your changes apply to all of the child dynamic elections that have already been generated from this parent - this option is enabled when the toggle is green, as shown in the image below
- Once you've selected this option, click 'Submit'
- A pop-up will appear asking you to confirm that you would like to proceed
The changes you made to this parent dynamic election will then be applied to all of its child dynamic elections that have already been generated, so there is no need to modify each of the individual child dynamic elections to make the changes you require.
There are some important things to note when using this feature:
- Using this option will essentially make any child dynamic elections a replica of their parent. This means that if you made any changes to the parent before and did not use this option, using it later down the line will also apply any changes that may have been made previously. For example, you may have changed the description of the parent but not applied these changes to all child elections at the time. If you make other changes to the parent down the line and use this option to apply the changes to any child elections, this will include the changes you made to the description.
- Applying these changes will do so to all child dynamic elections that have already been generated. If you need to change only a few of your child dynamic elections, we would recommend modifying these individually so that you do not affect any other child dynamic elections.
Why can't I see this option when I try and submit my election?
This toggle will only be available when modifying a parent dynamic election.
It will not appear when creating a brand new parent dynamic election, or when modifying a non-dynamic election.
What about the child dynamic elections that haven't been generated yet?
When a child dynamic election is generated it is a replica of its parent dynamic election, and will have the same i.e. description, nomination dates, voting dates etc...
Therefore, if you modify a parent dynamic election during the nomination period and apply to changes to all existing child dynamic elections, the same settings will be applied to any new child elections that are generated from that point.
