How do I create a referral code?

This guide covers how to create referral codes within the Events module and assign the relevant products to your referrals.

You can create and manage your referral codes via the Configuration tab within the Events module.

Click Referral Codes to start creating your codes and add your ticket products:

  1. Once you have accessed the Referral Codes page, select 'Create Referral Code' to create a new referral
  2. Confirm the following information for your referral:
    1. Name
    2. Code - this will be the code that users need to apply when purchasing an eligible product
    3. Start/End dates - confirm the dates you would like the referral to be live (you can change these at any time)
    4. Products - select which products you would like to be eligible to redeem this referral. All ticket products that are on sale, or set to go live in the future, will be available to select. The event date names will also be shown, allowing you to search for products by the event if needed
  3. Click 'Submit' once you are happy with your referral

Please note: Following the release of this recently updated functionality (on 21st January 2024) if you had any existing product referrals these will still be shown when accessing your referrals page, along with the product each code was created for. If a product was previously assigned and its sale dates have now ended, you will not be able to deselect the product when modifying a referral code.

Your new referral will then appear within the table, confirming the name, the code you have created and the status of the referral (active or inactive based on the dates you have entered).

Click the light blue 'View Details' button to view all of the products that have been assigned to that referral code, including the number of times the referral code has been used when purchasing that specific product.

You will also be able to see the Product Status which conirms if the prpduct is active or expired. If the product has expired, this means that the product is no longer on sale.

You can modify the details of your referral if ever needed, for example if you need to adjust the dates that the code is active, or add more products to the referral.

Please note: You can add an remove products from a referral at any time, however please note that if a product is removed, this is immediate, and members will not be able to apply the referral code to the product when adding this to their basket.

How many referral codes can I have active at one time?

You can create and activate as many referral codes as you need at any one time, there is no limit on how many you can have active.

Once you have created a new referral code, you will be able to select the orange 'Go to Referral Products Page' button to open the referral page for that code on your website.

Please note: You will need to ensure the relevant web template for this page has been added in order to access this page. External developer documentation is available via GitHub for further guidance. If you require any assistance please get in touch the team via ZenDesk.

The page will look similar to the below:

If you wish to share a referral link to prospective purchasers instead of a code, simply copy the URL of this page and share it.

All of the products that are on sale and have been assigned to that referral code will be displayed for purchasers to select from - if someone adds a product to their basket via this page, the referral code will have already been applied for them.

See here for further guidance on how purchasers can use your referral codes.

Alternatively, you can obtain a link to a specific product that has been assigned to this referral code, which will automatically apply the code to the product. You will need to click the light blue 'View Details' button against a referral code, and then click the orange 'Go to Referral Product Page' to access the page for that specific product.

When you access this page, a green message will appear confirming that the referral code has already been applied to the product:

How do I ensure my selected products appear on the product referrals page?

Your selected products will appear within the referrals page as long as they are active and on sale.

If a ticket product is not within its sale dates, it will not appear for selection within this page.

Other than its sale dates, there are no other configurations that need to be made to a ticket product to ensure it appears within the product referral page.
