How do ticket purchasers use a referral code?
This guide covers how purchasers can apply a referral code when purchasing a ticket product.
When a user purchases a ticket, they can log the referral they wish to use either by:
- using a link to a referral code/product's dedicated web page
- entering a referral code itself when they add the product to their basket via the website or SU App
Purchasing tickets via a link
You can share the link to the relevant referral code's product page to allow users to view a full list of products that are available for purchase against that particular referral code.
To access this page, simply navigate to the Referral Codes section within Configuration and click the orange Go to Referral Products Page button alongside the relevant code.

You can then copy the URL of this page to distribute as needed.
Below is an example of how this page might look on your website:

Users can simply select the product they wish to purchase, and when they come to add it to their basket, the referral code will have already been applied to the product, similar to the below:

Please note: You will need to ensure the relevant web template for this page has been added in order to access this page. External developer documentation is available via GitHub for further guidance. If you require any assistance please get in touch the team via ZenDesk.
Links to a specific product
Alternatively, you can obtain a link to a specific product that has been assigned to a referral code, which will direct the user to that product on your website and automatically apply the referral code.
You will need to click the blue View Details button against a referral code to view all of the products assigned to that code, and then click the orange Go to Referral Product Page alongside the relevant product to access the page for that specific product.
When you access this page, the referral code will have already been applied to the product.
Entering a referral code
Alternatively, if a purchaser has a referral code and is purchasing a product as normal within your website or the SU App, they can enter the code within the Referral Code field when they add the product to their basket.
If the code they enter is active and applicable to the product that they are purchasing, they will see a success message confirming that the code has been applied (similar to the above). If the code they used is not applicable, then a message will appear confirming that it has not been applied.
Changing a live referral code
If you change the code of a referral, you will need to provide the new code to those who need to distribute/use the referral.
If you are using links, you will also need to obtain a new link by selecting the Go to Referral Products Page button to access the referral page and copy the URL to distribute.
If a ticket purchaser tries to apply an old referral code that is no longer in use, an error message will appear confirming that no referral code has been applied, and no referral will be logged once the purchase is completed.
If someone attempts to access a link to an old referral code, this will not direct them to a product referral page.
Can a referral code be used multiple times?
Yes – purchasers can use referral codes an unlimited amount of times when purchasing any number of eligible products.
Referral codes are logged per product purchased as opposed to per transaction - for example if a member purchases 3 of the same event tickets and has applied the same code, 3 uses will be logged against the referral code.
