How do ticket purchasers use a Ticket Referral link or code?

It’s easy for a ticket purchaser to use a referral when purchasing their tickets:

To log a referral via the Ticket Referral link, the ticket purchaser simply needs to view and purchase their ticket directly via this link.

They won’t need to enter a code or do anything other than purchase their ticket as usual. When a ticket is purchased directly through a referral link, the referral will still be logged as if a code has been entered.

Using Ticket Referral Codes

To use a Ticket Referral code, the ticket purchaser will need to add this code to the ‘Referral code’ field before they add their tickets to their basket.

Below is an example of how this might look on your website:

Please note: You will need to ensure that this field has been added to your web templates and is available on your events tickets page. This will need to be added either by your web developer or by the SUMS team if you do not have this resource in-house. External developer documentation is available via GitHub for further guidance.

What do I need to do if I change a referral code whilst it is live?

If you change the code of a Ticket Referral, you will need to provide the new code to those who need to distribute/use the referral.

If you are using links, you will also need to obtain a new link by selecting the ‘Generate Link’ button.

If a ticket purchaser either uses a link for an old referral code or adds a code to their basket that is no longer being used, no referral will be logged once the purchase is completed.

Can a Ticket Referral link/code be used multiple times?

Yes – once you have passed these details onto whomever you would like to distribute these links/codes (such as your Reps, if you have a Rep Referral Scheme) the links/codes can be used by ticket purchasers an unlimited number of times.
